Symbol of the Heart

The essence of life

When I began my quest and the idea of blogging, one thing I knew for sure… that the “heart” had to be the very center of my blog. The word “heart” had to be in the title as well. I thought through several names and asked family and friends for their input on what names stood out to them. And in the end the most personal, connected title was born. Expressions of My Heart.

Why the heart? Because the heart is the center of internal life – involving intellect (mind) will and emotion. Where moral choices are made. What is said, what is seen and what is done. Where compassion and love are birthed. Where emotion takes flight.

The heart is the very essence of life. Located between the lungs, in the middle compartment of the chest, it is the focal point of our souls our body our lives. As one of the most vital organs, the heart has long been identified as the seat of life. The heart is an emblematic symbol signifying truth, conscience or moral courage—thought; the divine center, transcendent wisdom, diamond of purity and understanding.

This hollow muscular organ that pumps the blood through the circulatory system by rhythmic contraction and dilation that ultimately determines life or death, has so much meaning. We use phrases such as… “after ones own heart, meaning kindred or like-minded,” “at heart-ones genuine nature,” “break someones heart-overwhelm with sadness,” “close to ones heart-of deep connection,” “from the heart-sincere feeling,” have a heart-be merciful,to show pity,” “wear my heart on my sleeve-to reveal feelings outwardly,” just to name a few.

Of love and hate the heart is the most significant connection between us all. It can crush us or it can build us. The heart is where life begins. The heart is where love never ends.

We all have a love. From faith to family, pets or passions, food and friends, music or mustangs, coffee and cake… Love not only thrives it survives. And it is with that, “the heart”, its beat, its waves, its functions and emotions that I share My Heart with you.
